CLERY Information

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act)

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (known as the 鈥淐lery Act鈥) requires that colleges and universities publish an annual security report, distribute the report to all students and employees, and inform prospective students and employees about the report. The report contains information regarding campus safety and security including topics such as: campus law enforcement authority; crime reporting policies; campus alerts (Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications); programs to prevent dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking; the procedures the University will follow when one of these crimes is reported; and other matters of importance related to security on campus. The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Noncampus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus.

The purpose of the Act is to inform students and employees of the incidents of crime and the policies and procedures to prevent crime or to report occurrences of crime at institutions of higher education. The law is also designed to encourage the development of security policies and procedures and to establish uniformity in reporting of crimes at all such institutions.
