̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Announces Increased UA Scholars Award and Enhanced Flexibility for Recipients
Anchorage, Alaska – July 11, 2024 – The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ is pleased to announce that the UA Scholars Award will be increased from $12,000 to $15,000, effective Fall 2024. This significant enhancement marks the first major increase in the Award amount since 2015, reflecting the University's commitment to supporting academic excellence and making higher education more accessible for Alaskan students.
In addition to the increase in funding, UA Scholars will now have the flexibility to take up to four semesters off without losing their Award. This change provides students with greater adaptability as they navigate their college experience and future career plans.
"The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ is dedicated to investing in our students' futures," said Lael Oldmixon, Executive Director. "By increasing the UA Scholars Award and offering more flexibility, we are ensuring that our students have the resources and support they need to succeed."
Furthermore, recent legislative changes have also enhanced the Alaska Performance Scholarship. HB 148, signed by Governor Dunleavy on July 2, raises all three levels of the APS award between $1,100 and $2,200 per academic year, with expanded student eligibility. Alaskan students eligible for both programs could now receive up to $1,500 more per semester to study within the state.
These initiatives underscore the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡'s ongoing efforts to foster academic achievement and provide financial support to students across the state.
