̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Board of Regents to discuss the university’s role in Alaska’s Blue Economy, new efforts to increase teacher training, and other key issues  during its June 3-4 meeting
 

The ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Board of Regents will convene a two-day meeting on June 3-4 to address a number of key issues including board goals and measures, a new consortium for the Alaska College of Education, and the successful collaboration of UA’s fisheries and ocean sciences programs in fostering Alaska’s Blue Economy. 

On Thursday, regents will hear a financial briefing from Chief Finance Officer Myron Dosch on university finances and reaching financial stability, and receive an update on the Alaska Native Success Initiative. The Blue Economy discussion is part of the ongoing  highlighting university points of pride.

During Thursday’s meeting the board will honor four outstanding staff members for excellence in assisting the university’s students with the 2021 Staff Makes Students Count awards. 

Interim President Pat Pitney will lead the board through a discussion on policy and processes related to the board’s goals and measures, which include: contributing to Alaska’s economic development, providing Alaska’s skilled workforce, growing UA’s world class research, increasing degree attainment, operating more cost effectively and increasing Alaska Native student success.

On Friday, regents will discuss implementing a consortium structure for the UA College of Education, take up reports from three board committees and receive an update on the efforts to build a culture of respect and safety across the UA system.

The regents also will receive updates from university chancellors and governance groups.

Thursday’s meeting will begin at 8 a.m. and is scheduled to conclude by 5 p.m. Friday’s meeting will begin at 9 a.m. and is scheduled to conclude by 1 p.m.
