Professor Vladimir Romanovsky Honored with 2025 IASC Medal

The International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) has awarded the 2025 IASC Medal to Professor Emeritus Vladimir Romanovsky, recognizing his exceptional and sustained contributions to Arctic science, particularly in permafrost research.

Romanovsky, a longtime faculty member at the 探花精选 Fairbanks (UAF), dedicated nearly three decades to teaching and research at the Geophysical Institute and the Department of Geosciences. His work on permafrost dynamics has significantly shaped global understanding of climate change impacts in Arctic regions.

Over his career, Romanovsky authored or co-authored more than 300 publications, supervised over 30 graduate students, and played a key role in international permafrost monitoring networks. His leadership extended beyond UAF, serving on the U.S. Delegation to the IASC and as Vice Chair of the IASC Terrestrial Working Group.

The IASC Medal is awarded annually to individuals who have made exceptional and sustained contributions to the understanding of the Arctic. Romanovsky鈥檚 dedication to scientific collaboration, open data sharing, and mentorship underscores the profound impact of his career.
